Publishing is NOT simple. There are detailed registrations which must be made, checked and chased to ensure that copyright owners get paid what they are due.
Don't leave it too late to have your songs represented. Once a song is recorded, you are already in danger of losing income without proper and efficient representation.
Is registration really, really enough?
Correct registration is not enough to ensure that income is correctly allocated to the copyright owner. Has the work been linked to the right agreement?
Has the work been linked to the right recording (or to any recording)?
Was the work added to the societies' database before the recording company applied for a licence? If not, back claims will need to be made.
Do you really, really know how much is due?
If your work is licensed through MCPS, the type of record company will determine whether you get paid in arrears for all copies pressed, in advance for all copies sold or in arrears for all copies sold. There are also allowances for promotional copies.
